| Cal Spirit is the only gig that Chuck and I play that
causes us to come real close to having to break down and actually
rehearse. We just don't do that. We have a motto..............."Play it
today, learn it tomorrow," and it has served us very well. But
when you're playing somewhere that has an entrance fee larger than the
monthly income of most blues musicians........... and they don't want
you singing and telling stories that might distract people,
...........and there are folks wandering around who I only know from
watching television, .........and they really expected a jazz
duo................ well, it's just a little bit intimidating. But we
had a great time, met lots of nice people, and did our small part to
help a great cause. We made up a bunch of stuff that I think
Lightnin' Hopkins called "air songs" cause they just go out in the air,
and you never see them again. If one of those folks who took our cards
calls and wants to hear something we played at Cal Spirit, we're in deep
trouble. |
