1. Done What I Done

Sometimes it's just not that complicated. Maybe you could have done some things better..........maybe not. But it's all gone to hell now.

I did what I did, done what I done, but now I don't

I did what I did, done what I done, but now I won't

You used to love me, the way you done me, but now you don't

I wake up every morning just to check the time

Set my clock back to where you were still mine

You spent my lovin' like you spend my money

When I get home there ain't nothing left here honey, it's all gone

I did what I did, done what I done, but now I don't

I did what I did, done what I done, but now I won't

You used to love me, the way you done me, but now you don't

2. Texas Froze Over

Could be a place you're living, could be a job, could be a relationship,..........but sometimes you might have to decide that in spite of your best efforts, ..............it just isn't working. You can continue to beat yourself up, or you can decide that you got to leave before you can arrive.

I heard Texas froze over, but hell's O.K.

It could be cold right now, but there'll be hell to pay

I'm believing, leaving's a better way

You can wear out your welcome, and it'll wear down your pride

You keep right on trying till you got nothing left inside

I'm believing in leaving when you left to get right

There's no winners or losers, just a will to survive

The only ones left standing, seldom get out alive

I believe you got to leave before you can arrive

I heard Texas froze over, but hell's O.K.

It could be cold right now, but there'll be hell to pay

I'm believing, leaving's a better way

3. Girl From Philadelphia

In spite of wishful thinking that I might somehow be somewhat in control of my destiny, it seems like the best things are often a complete surprise.

It's often heard, but it's seldom said

Life will change if you wake up dead

Wide awake, it's just a bad dream

But this nightmare once was your fantasy

Fate's no sure thing, she's a shameless tease

I'd run away if I could crawl to my knees

I'd be gone

Take me for better and leave me for worse

Take me for granted, sweep me out like dirt

Take your time, I'm moving kind of slow

Some fool take my place, man, I got to go

Take me baby for all that I'm worth

Leave just a little bit to make sure I can still hurt

When you're gone

Love is free, but it should not be cheap

If it costs you nothing, then it's nothing to leave

Folks said get out of Texas and head further west

Get yourself a beach chair and watch the sun set

There's women out there, they'll be glad to help you

But if you want to get it right, you need a Girl from Philadelphia

Got to get you one

4. Happy Birthday

I  made Mary's acquaintance at the Cafe Boogaloo one night and we talked for a few hours 'til then she kind of left in a hurry. After a long series of emails and phone calls, I flew 2400 miles to Philadelphia for our first date. I wrote this short chronicle  for Mary's first birthday after we got married.

On a performance note, I've clearly spent too much time playing alone, so this music kind of developed from my need to play a jazz bass line, rhythm guitar, and then sing all at the same time.

She looked good in her business suit

But what's she doing in the Boogaloo

Must be a meeting right down the street

Where them high-styling women bring the world to their feet

You got it all I believe, You just need me

She seemed kind of young, but I could not stop

When I learned the truth, I can say I was shocked

But it's not such a big thing, we can make it happen

It's been done before by men of my stature

Hey, hey, you look good for a woman my age

She gave me her name, and left me her number

Went back to Philly and told me to call her

I'd never known how bad she could be

If it weren't for U.S. Air and AT&T

Hey, hey, it's all good with a woman my age

I want to wake up every morning of each and every day

Look at you and say, "It's your birthday"

What can I bring you, it's on my way

We can light up that candle and I'll eat cake

Hey, hey, you look good every day

She seemed kind of young, but I could not stop

When I learned the truth, I can say I was shocked

But it's not such a big thing, we can make it happen

It's been done before by men of my stature

Hey, hey, you look good for a woman my age

Hey, hey, you look good every day

Hey, hey

5. Don't Stop

This is a story about a woman who tried to kill me................in the best possible way........

Well, it's been nights, and it's been days

Seen my life, through a sleepless haze

I hit the bottom, and started to drop

You can stay, or you can go, but don't stop

I can't say why, I can't say when

I can't explain, just where I've been

If I drive you crazy, I'll drive you home and drop you off

You can stay, or you can go, but don't stop

You can take those off, climb inside

Put your seatbelt on, it'll be a bumpy ride

Put that on, and take those off

You can stay, or you can go, but don't stop

Well, it's been nights, and it's been days

Seen my life, through a sleepless haze

I hit the bottom, and started to drop

You can stay, or you can go, but don't stop

6. Circles

So there comes that point in a relationship when you tell her that you've got some baggage. And she doesn't think much of it cause she's expecting a small overnight bag............and then you show up with a Mayflower moving van...........

When you're going in circles, You know just where your future's been

And you can run away, you'll be right back here again

I'm so sorry, past is hard to explain

And I can't escape, the debts I've paid

I won't to leave it behind, It's always facing me

Won't you leave me alone, Won't you let me be

Always facing, always chasing, Won't you leave me alone

Won't you let me be

And I'm so sorry for being afraid

Making you doubt me, scaring you this way

And I want to thank you, for being my friend

Seeing right through me, giving me a chance

That's all I'll ever need

Thank you for, thank you for love, thank you for loving me

It's all I'll ever need

7. Crime of Passion

It's clearly not a rational response that makes you feel this way.  One day you discover that this woman has taken over your entire consciousness.............and you like it. How does that happen? Clearly she has an arsenal of weapons that I am not able to understand.

I can't stand up, can't even try

They way I feel, I don't know why

My chest is pounding, I can't breathe

Why'd you do this thing to me

It was a Crime of Passion

She got weapons of mass distraction

I been kidnapped, can't get away

Held for ransom, that I can't pay

They'll never find me, don't even try

I been held by the bonds that tie

It was a Crime of Passion

She got weapons of mass distraction

I seem so lost, nothing looks the same

It's all vanished, been rearranged

You took it all, said come on with me

I got everything that you need

It was a Crime of Passion

She's got weapons of mass distraction

It was a Crime of Passion

She's got weapons of mass distraction

8. Long Lost Love

Can you lose something you never had? And how will you know if you find it? I wrote this song for our wedding.

Long lost hope, it can drive you to your knees

But you grabbed hold, now I see just what I really need

You're my Long Lost Love, and my new found destiny

Took me such a long, long time, but you're still here, it's hard to believe

Someone was looking, someone was watching after you and me

Cause you're my Long Lost Love, and my new found destiny

Cause you're my Long Lost Love, and my new found destiny

But don't think I take this for granted, see I'm still down on my knees

But now I'm saying thank you Lord, thank you for what I've come to see

Cause you're my Long Lost Love, and my new found destiny

Cause you're my Long Lost Love, and my new found destiny

9. Don't You Think

I think of it as the honeymoon song. and as far as I can tell, I'm in no danger of it becoming a nostalgia piece.

Don't you think, she looks good in pink

Don't you think, she looks good in pink

I got voices in my head saying things that can't be said

I got visions in my mind, can't close my eyes or I'll go blind

Don't you think, she looks good in pink

Don't you, don't you, don't you, don't you think, she looks good in pink

Victoria's got a secret, but she's talking in my sleep

Could be sheer illusions, delusions I can't keep

Don't you think, she looks good in pink

Don't you, don't you, don't you think, she looks good in pink

Victoria's got a secret, but she's talking in my sleep

Could be sheer illusions, delusions I can't keep

Don't you think, she looks good in pink

Don't you think, she looks good in pink

Mary had a little lamb and everybody knows

Everywhere that Mary went, this lamb was sure to go

Don't you think, she looks good in pink

Don't you, don't you, don't you, don't you think, she looks good in pink

10. Ache That Makes Me Smile

I wrote this song for my daughter Sarah when she got married.  Once upon a time, she and her brother Matthew were small and I have a lot of memories of coming home worn out and then spending hours convincing them that it was bedtime and they needed to go sleep. In retrospect, I'd give most anything to go back there, but here's some of the things Sarah used to say to me.

Daddy watch me, see how high I can go

I made this for you, on my own

It's all changed, but just the same, I need to linger for a while

With that ache that makes me smile

Daddy I can't sleep, can we play that again?

Sing that song we made up, Mr. Bear wants to dance

Long ago, and far away, I need to linger for a while

With that ache that makes me smile

Daddy hold my hand, I'm scared

Close that closet door, keep those monsters out of here

It's all changed, but just the same, I need to linger for a while

With that ache that makes me smile

You don't have to go, you just want to

I'll be waiting here, you know I love you

Long ago, and far away, I need to linger for a while

With that ache that makes me smile

It's all changed, but just the same, I need to linger for a while

With that ache that makes me smile

11. Gets to Me

I picked up the guitar at a young age cause I had visions of being on stage somewhere while wild woman danced and threw clothing at me. But one day I was sitting in the kitchen playing this guitar thing that was running through my head..............and Mary came out of the bedroom and started dancing. I decided that even if I'm never a rock star, I got everything I really need.

Moving fast, but where I don't know

When you look like that, I don't think I need to go

Sit in the kitchen, guitar in my hand

Sing a song just to watch you dance

And now I know, and I can see

The things you do, well it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

Sometimes I wonder if life might pass me by

And I should worry, but I can't think of why

I'm not too old to still die young but I've had my chance

I think I lose a beat every time I see you dance

And now I know, and I can see

The things you do, well it gets to me

No, every time, it gets to me

No, every time, it gets to me

No, every time, it gets to me

Well it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

And are you sure you've got the right place

Take your time, take mine, I don't need it anyway

I think I will, I think I might, I think I'll take a chance

Quit my job and play guitar just to watch you dance

And now I know, and I can see

The things you do, well it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

No every time it gets to me

12. Brilliance

I had no idea it would turn out this way. The scars inflicted by others, and particularly the self-inflicted ones...........they should have ruined me. But it works out better than I could have planned.

No one can take from me the things I never had

The things I might have lost, I never needed all that bad

The scars that hurt the most were most put their by friends

The ones that never heal, I put there myself

Folks said I would never be the same

They could be right cause I get better every day

Now I got a woman who thinks I'm handsome, smart, and kind

I'm going to keep her now cause brilliance is so hard to find

No one can hold me to the things I never said

The things you might have heard were just voices in your head

Twisted truth and straight out lies

No need to argue when you're guilty by denial

Folks said I would never be the same

They could be right cause I get better every day

Now I got a woman who thinks I'm handsome, smart, and kind

I'm going to keep her now cause brilliance is so hard to find

I got to hold on, hold on tight

I got to hold on, for dear life

I got to hold on,

I got to hold on for the rest of my life

Folks said I'd never be the same

The could be right cause I get better every day

Now I got a sleepover nurse

She says show me where it hurts

No one can tell me just how it might of been

And I don't care so much cause it worked out good instead

I could not hope to win cause I was so afraid to lose

Sometimes there's happy endings in spite of what you do

Folks said I would never be the same

They could be right cause I get better every day

Now I got a woman who thinks I'm handsome, smart, and kind

I'm going to keep her now cause brilliance is so hard to find
